MIPS and Intrinsyc announce collaboration
(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MIPS Technologies Inc (Nasdaq:MIPS) and mobile software solutions provider Intrinsyc Software International Inc (TSX:ICS) announced on Wednesday they are working together to bring 3.5G functionality to the MIPS architecture.
No financial details were disclosed.
The companies said they are porting Intrinsyc's RapidRIL software to the MIPS architecture in order to accelerate mobile SoC development for MIPS licensees worldwide.
At the upcoming Mobile World Congress, held on 15-18 February in Barcelona, the companies plan to demonstrate 3.5G voice calls with audio and video playback on a MIPS-Based Android platform.
The optimised solution has the potential to bring 3.5G functionality to a range of devices including e-book readers, personal and automotive navigation devices, portable media players, mobile Internet devices (MIDs), digital photo frames and smartphones, Intrinsyc said.
MIPS is a provider of industry-standard processor architectures.
