Microsoft patches Visual Studio error message

(InfoWorld Daily Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Microsoft has released a patch for Visual Studio 2010 intended to address insufficient memory messages developers are getting when doing small cut or copy operations.

The patch was released late last week, and is available for download.

Please try again later,'" said Brittany Behrens, program manager for the Visual Studio Editor team, in a blog post.

"In some cases, VS (Visual Studio) incorrectly calculates that not enough memory is available (even though there is memory available)," and displays the error message, said Scott Guthrie, corporate vice president in the Microsoft Developer Division, also in a blog post.

Behrens noted that both before and after hotfix installation, there are cases when Visual Studio accurately reports that not enough memory is available for a given operation.

"You may still see out of memory dialogs when attempting to make a very large cut or copy (50+ MB of data at once).  However, the fix should ensure that Visual Studio is legitimately unable to find enough memory to execute such a large operation before displaying this dialog. The frequency of such a dialog should be dramatically decreased after installing the hotfix,"  Behrens said.

Visual Studio 2010 was released in April and features capabilities for SharePoint and Windows 7 application development as well as multimonitor support. But performance issues had pushed back its release by several weeks.
