Merrill River District receives Green Gift from Cellcom


(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 31 October 2014 Release date- 29102014 - Merrill, WI - Merrill River District received a $500 Green Gift from Cellcom today at a presentation on a portion of the River Bend Trail.

The River District Foundation was formed in 2011 and is currently focusing on developing the western portion of the trail that would eventually run from Big Eddy Road, near the city of Merrill's east side to Council Grounds State Park. Cellcom's Green Gift will support the continued development of the River Bend Trail.



'The River Bend Trail will benefit all ages by improving accessibility to our beautiful rivers and preserving the natural beauty of these secluded areas,' said Judy Woller of the River District Foundation. 'Once developed, the River Bend Trail will provide some new and unique opportunitiesfor children and families to enjoy nature as a family, gain more opportunities to exercise with their friends and take part in the maintenance and stewardship of the trail.' A total of $32,000 was given out to 26 green organizations in Cellcom's service area.

Since 2004 Cellcom has offered a cell phone recycling program where customers can bring in their old or unwanted phones to be reused and recycled. Cellcom sends the phones to recyclers who in return send money to Cellcom for the materials that were saved from the phones. Cellcom has always donated this money back to local non-profits. In 2010, Cellcom launched the Green Gift program, donating their recycling funds to green non-profit initiatives in an effort to complete the green cycle that starts with consumers being environmentally-conscious and donating their devices.

(Crandon), Northland Pines School District (St. Germain), Raptor Education Group (Antigo), Merrill River District (Merrill), Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance (Appleton), Wild Ones Fox Valley (Neenah), Twin City Catholic Educational System (Appleton), Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve (Appleton), Maywood Environmental Park (Sheboygan), Bookworm Gardens (Sheboygan), Central Rivers Farmshed (Stevens Point), Boys & Girls Club of Portage County (Stevens Point), Camp Tekawitha (Shawano), Navarino Nature Center (Navarino), Belle Plaine Sportmans Club (Clintonville), Woodland Dunes (Two Rivers), Open Door Bird Sanctuary (Sturgeon Bay), Crossroads at Big Creek (Sturgeon Bay), The Ridges Sanctuary (Bailey's Harbor), Friends of Mead/McMillan Association (Milladore), Robert W.
