Meridian Police seek man who tied up Moxie Java employee in robbery attempt early Tuesday

Nov 11, 2008 (The Idaho Statesman - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A female Moxie Java worker told Meridian police she was ambushed and tied up by a man who was waiting for her when she arrived to open the cafe for business around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police, who were called to the Moxie Java at 3055 E. Fairview, near the Eagle and Fairview intersection at 5:50 a.m., are still trying to figure out if anything was stolen from the store or how the man got inside.

The female employee told police she was opening the store around 5 a.m. when she noticed the front door of the store was open. She then told police she went inside and into a back room, where she found a man with a blue bandanna over his face standing by the safe in the store, Lt. Bob Stowe said.

The woman said she tried to run away but the man caught her and dragged her back into the back room and tied her up with aprons. She also told police he threatened to stab her but did not display a knife, Stowe said.

The woman said she passed out at that point and regained consciousness a short time later to discover the man was gone. She untied herself and called police around 5:50 a.m. The woman did not appear to be seriously injured.

The woman said the robber did not ask her to open the safe and there was no obvious evidence of forced entry at the front door, Stowe said.

There was some evidence of a struggle inside the store -- including the several aprons on the floor -- and officers were still there Tuesday morning looking for evidence.

The robber is described as a white man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a black beanie on his head and a blue bandanna over his face. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and black shoes.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 343-2677 or Meridian Police at 888-6678.
