Menara Networks Announces Transceiver Breakthrough - Introduces Industry's First Tunable SFP+ Transceiver with Integrated OTN and Forward Error Correction

Menara Networks, an IPG Photonics (News - Alert) business and a vertically integrated provider of IP/Ethernet DWDM transport solutions, today announced the introduction of the industry's first Tunable SFP+ transceiver with integrated OTN framing and Forward Error Correction capabilities.

Part of Menara's ATLAS family of "system-in-module" transceivers, the new OTN SFP+ transceiver leverages the Company's proprietary high speed mixed signal CMOS RADIA ASIC and provides full C-band tunability on the ITU-T 50 GHz grid, G.709 compliant OTN framing and G.975 compliant GFEC and EFEC capabilities in a 100% SFP+ MSA compliant form factor. Menara's tunable OTN SFP+ is compatible with all major MPLS Routers, Ethernet Switches and Packet Optical platforms and can provide up to 3,000 DWDM transmission reach for both 10GE and 10G SONET/SDH client signals.

"Our customers worldwide have achieved substantial cost savings and time-to-market advantages by using our OTN XFP 'system-in-a-module' transceivers to eliminate the need for DWDM transponders in their networks," said Siraj Nour ElAhmadi, Menara co-founder and President. "Thanks to our new sub-micron CMOS RADIA ASIC and innovative low power designs, we are now able to bring the same benefits in the smaller SFP+ form factor and accompany our customers in their network transition."

"Menara Networks has pioneered the integration of system-level functions into hot pluggable MSA transceivers," observed Michael Howard (News - Alert), senior research director and advisor, carrier networks at IHS Markit Technology. "The new SFP+ with integrated OTN framing and FEC can help service providers to simplify their networks, particularly for an 'Ethernet + Optical' network environment for better economics and more efficient operations."

Menara will be sampling its Atlas tunable OTN SFP+ in 2Q'17. For more information, please visit Menara Networks booth #3631 on the exhibit floor of the Optical Fiber Communications conference from March 21-23, 2017, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
