MedSolutions Appoints Gino Tenace Chief Strategy Officer

FRANKLIN, Tenn. --(Business Wire)--

MedSolutions, a leading provider of medical cost management services, has announced the appointment of Gino Tenace as chief strategy officer. In his new position, Mr. Tenace is responsible for assisting the chief executive officer in developing, communicating, executing and sustaining strategic initiatives that will help drive the company's future growth and profitability.

"Having been a chief executive officer himself, Gino has great strategic perspective, which will help our company continue to grow intelligently," said Curt Thorne, president and chief executive officer of MedSolutions. "Additionally, his experience at the nation's largest health insurer gives him a deep understanding of what is needed to help our customers solve the challenges they face every day, especially as implementation of healthcare reform really gears up."

Mr. Tenace joins MedSolutions from a key leadership role at Rise Health, a healthcare services company that provides primary care solutions to physician practices and other healthcare organizations. There, he served as president, chief operating officer and chief executive officer of Northeast Florida Accountable Care, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rise Health, where he led the development of business and financial plans, product and marketing strategies, technology and operations.

Prior to Rise Health, Mr. Tenace spent 15 years at UnitedHealth Group, where he held an array of executive management positions. Notably, he led the company's Quality and Affordability Programs, which lwered costs and improved the quality of care for the 45 million commercial, Medicare and Medicaid lives served by the insurer. In that role, Mr. Tenace's teams implemented programs that drove nearly $1 billion in fully insured commercial savings in the first two years. Additionally, Mr. Tenace created the Just Right Service program, a continuous quality improvement initiative based on the principles of Six Sigma. Through the various programs he oversaw, UnitedHealth Group realized savings of more than $300 million.

"My career has been devoted to the idea that healthcare costs can be lowered and quality improved at the same time, and the services provided by MedSolutions are perfectly aligned with that vision," said Mr. Tenace. "I look forward to developing and driving strategies that enable us to continue to help our customers deliver patients the highest quality, lowest cost care possible."

Mr. Tenace has also been involved in the formation of national healthcare policy. With Rise Health, he was asked to lead a team of national healthcare leaders in presenting approaches to reducing Medicare cost trends and improving quality to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius. He also advised President George W. Bush's healthcare team and helped Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration develop programs to cover California's uninsured citizens.

Mr. Tenace received both a BS in computer science and an MBA from Clarkson University, where he graduated first in his class. He also served as a distinguished member of the U.S. Army National Guard for fourteen years, reaching the rank of Major.
