MEDIA ALERT/PHOTO OPP: Comcast Employees Donate Hundreds of Service Hours in Denver as Part of 14th Annual Comcast Cares Day

WHAT: On Saturday, April 25, more than 3,700 Denver-area Comcast employees, family members and friends will volunteer as part of the 14th annual "Comcast Cares Day," one of Colorado's largest single-day corporate volunteerism efforts.

Comcast employees will organize and run the Race Against Violence for the Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club. Comcast employees can also be found at Amp the Cause, Audubon Society of Greater Denver, Biennial of the Americas, Clayton Early Learning Center, Colorado I Have A Dream Foundation, Compass (News - Alert) Academy, Denver Children's Home, Denver Health, Denver Indian Center, Environmental Learning for Kids, Epic Book Drive, Food Bank of the Rockies, Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, Greenway Foundation, McAuliffe International School, Mi Casa Resource Center, OpenWorld Learning, Seniors' Resource Center and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Across Colorado, Cares Day projects will provide a total of nearly 40,800 hours of service - all in a single day.

Comcast expects more than 80,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers to participate in over 700 projects across the country and around the globe. To date, more than half a million volunteers have contributed over three million volunteer hours since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.

WHEN: Saturday, April 25. Volunteers will begin work at 8:30 a.m.

WHERE: Comcast Cares Day will take place in 20 locations around Denver. Media are encouraged to attend one of the following project sites:

Amp the Cause (1,000 volunteers) 1616 17th St., Denver, CO 80202

Amp the Cause's mission is to improve the lives of families through entertainment, annual events and community service projects. They raise critical health and education funds, generate awareness of local charities, use monetary and in-kind donations to help children with life-threatening illnesses, and provide opportunities for kids to participate in educational programs in a safe and healthy environment. Teams of volunteers will be dispersed to complete multiple facility improvement projects, including painting, landscaping, cleaning, roofing, carpeting and much more.

Audubon Society of Greater Denver (250 volunteers) 9308 South Wadsworth Blvd., Littleton, CO 80128

The Audubon Society of Greater Denver (ASGD) is an environmental conservation organization with more than 3,000 members whose goal is to protect birds in the Denver region and beyond, and preserve habitats. ASGD advocates for the environment, connecting people with nature through education, conservation and research. At ASGD, volunteers will help with general landscaping, clearing trails and other special projects.

Biennial of the Americas (140 volunteers) 730 Kalamath St., Denver, CO 80204

The Biennial of the Americas is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of art and ideas in Denver, and connecting the Americas. The Biennial of the Americas has partnered with local property owners in the Santa Fe Arts District (both commercial and nonprofit) to identify locations that require consistent graffiti removal. Comcast Cares Day volunteers-along with Biennial constituents and neighborhood volunteers-will participate in a graffiti wipe out. Additionally, they will identify locations that can be abated ahead of time and work with artists to create mural designs, which volunteers will implement on Comcast Cares Days.

Boys & Girls Club Race Against Violence (150 volunteers) 4397 Crown Blvd., Denver, CO 80239

The Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club officially opened on August 28, 2003. The Club, a partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and the Denver Broncos Football Club, serves more than 1,500 kids each year! The Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Clubs' Race Against Violence is a special day set aside each Spring to help the Club and community members engage in healthy and fun activities while also taking a stand against the violence that has plagued their community. Volunteers will organize and run this event for the Club.

Clayton Early Learning Center (100 volunteers) 3801 Martin Luther King Blvd., Denver, CO 80205

Clayton Early Learning is Colorado's leading catalyst in providing early care and education, and collaborating with others to improve thse important services. Volunteers will come together to complete more than 11 projects across the 20 acre Clayton campus. Projects will include cleaning the campus pathway, drainage, parking lot and building windows. Volunteers will also help planting trees, arranging wood chips and creating playground and garden bed areas. Indoors activities will consist of cleaning the playground and classrooms. Comcast will also be providing child care with snacks and activities.



Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation (At Ruby Hill Foundation) (80 volunteers) 2626 W. Evans, Denver, CO 80219

Colorado "I Have A Dream" (CIHAD) Foundation works with low-income, marginalized communities throughout Metro Denver through educational and wraparound support. This year, we have begun our whole school model where we have partnered with the new STRIVE Prep Elementary School - Ruby Hill - and will be working with these students starting in Kindergarten and following them through high school graduation. Volunteers will help create a more inviting look to the building through community-led mural painting, beautifying the outside walls and building out the outside facade.


Compass Academy (150 volunteers) 911 S Hazel Ct., Denver, CO 80219

John Hopkins University's Center for Social Organization of Schools and City Year have partnered together to develop a charter school, and have chosen Denver as the site for the first implementation of that charter school. City Year and the Compass Academy start-up team, in collaboration with Comcast, will organize a full renovation of the building and outside grounds for Comcast Cares Day. Projects will include painting of interior walls, landscaping of the exterior grounds, replanting of the school garden and rejuvenating the playground area.

Denver Children's Home (200 volunteers) 1501 Albion St., Denver, CO 80220

Denver Children's Home (DCH) is the oldest non-profit in Colorado, who care for the state's abused and neglected children. Volunteers will participate in a deep clean of the facilities and general landscape and painting. In addition, they will build a fence for the property.

Denver Health (100 volunteers) 190 W 6th Ave., Denver, CO 80204

Denver Health cares for all people and is committed to providing the best care for every person, mind, body and spirit, and making the community a healthy place to live, work and raise a family. The volunteer teams will be assisting in various beautification projects such as planting shrubs, landscape work, painting of picnic tables and assistance with hospital beds.

Denver Indian Center (130 volunteers) 4407 Morrison Rd., Denver, CO 80219

The Denver Indian Center's mission is to empower our youth, families and community through self-determination, cultural identity and education. Indoor activities will include painting hallways, doorframes and conference room. Outdoors, volunteers will help planting perennials in the garden beds and painting a mural on the outside back wall of the building.

Environmental Learning for Kids (70 volunteers) 15555 E 53rd Ave., Denver, CO 80239

Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) provides programs to educate the next generation about the importance of maintaining a safe and clean environment for our future. On April 25, volunteers will join ELK planting trees throughout Parkfield Park.

EPIC Book Drive (30 volunteers) Denver Metro Area Comcast Offices

Comcast Cares is partnering with EPIC (Executives Partnering to Invest in Children) and the Office of Lt. Governor Garcia (Colorado Reads) to promote COLORADO BUSINESS READS in the Denver Metro Region. The statewide book drive places books in the homes of children birth through age eight, while highlighting the importance of positive adult/child interaction through reading activities. Donation boxes will be available in the following Comcast offices: Airport, Babcock, Hampden, Iliff, Colorado Springs Call Center, TCC, Tucson and Umatilla.

Food Bank of the Rockies (50 volunteers) 10700 E. 45th Ave., Denver, CO 80239

Food Bank of the Rockies (FBR) is the largest private hunger-relief organization in the state of Colorado. Since 1978, FBR has provided nearly 571 million pounds of food to member agencies, which translates to nearly 476 million meals for people in need. Volunteers will work in one of two areas - reclamation and USDA/CSFP Commodity Supplemental Food Program.

Girls Inc. of Metro Denver (150 volunteers) 1499 Julian St., Denver, CO 80204

Girls Inc. of Metro Denver inspires all girls to be strong, smart and bold through life changing programs and experiences that help girls navigate barriers and reach their full potential. They provide year round academic-achievement and skill-building programs that are delivered by trained, mentoring professionals in a positive all-girl environment. Volunteers will work on general indoor and outdoor beautification projects.

Greenway Foundation (Denver Parks and Recreation) (630 volunteers) 1416 Platte St., Denver, CO 80202

The Greenway Foundation is a Denver-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has led efforts, since 1974, to reclaim the South Platte River and its tributaries from a virtual cesspool to a place of environmental and recreational pride. Volunteers will help with numerous projects including laying fine crusher trails, picking up trash, removing plant debris, painting park features and more.

McAuliffe International School (120 volunteers) 2540 Holly St., Denver, CO 80207

The McAuliffe at Smiley Foundation's goal is to support McAuliffe International School in achieving its mission of creating a high-performing middle school that prepares all students for success in high school, college and life. At this project, volunteers will help with general beautification projects, including landscaping and painting.

Mi Casa Resource Center (100 volunteers) 360 Acoma St., Denver, CO 80223

Since 1976, Mi Casa has been dedicated to advancing the economic success of Latino and working families in the Denver Metro area. At Mi Casa, volunteers will help with a variety of indoor and outdoor beautification activities to create a clean and comfortable environment for families. Indoors, volunteers will help renovate the center by removing wall paper, painting walls, smoothing out ceilings and touching up the community hall stage. Outside, volunteers will perform landscaping such as weeding, raking and cleaning outdoor trash.

OpenWorld Learning (110 volunteers) 3001 Brighton Blvd., Denver, CO 80216

Over 100 low-income 3rd-8th grade students from the Denver area will be competing in this year's OWL TechFair held at Industry, Denver on April 25th. Live competitions include Lego Robotics and Coding, with judged competitions in Movie Making and Graphic Design as well. Volunteer activities will include Event Judging, Tech Computer Support, AV Support, Event Set Up, Event Teardown, Registration Tables, Ushers, Space Managers, Uber Support, Photography, Donation Pick & and Delivery, and Kitchen Staff. Volunteers will also hand out materials and answer questions to increase awareness of Internet Essentials, the nation's leading broadband adoption program helping low-income families connect to the Internet at home.

Seniors' Resource Center (90 volunteers) 3227 Chase St., Denver, CO 80212

Senior Resource Group is a community partner providing person-focused, coordinated services to enhance independence, dignity and quality of life. To beautify the senior citizen's homes in the area, volunteers will participate in general cleanup of the facility and landscape work surrounding the facilities.

Veterans of Foreign Wars (Colorado) (140 volunteers) 2190 S. Platte River Dr., Denver, CO 80223

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States has a solemn, unwavering mission to assist veterans and their dependents in obtaining the entitlements they justly deserve. At the VFW Colorado Department, volunteers will help repair the facility's fence, paint the interior and exterior of the building and general cleaning.

VISUALS/SPOKESPEOPLE: Volunteers of all ages will be rolling up their sleeves to take part in a variety of hands-on projects. Reporters are welcome to take B-Roll of volunteers, and speak to representatives of the non-profits and Comcast project leaders will be available on-site.
