Media Advisory/Photo Op - Homesick for the holidays? The cure is a free phone call away

TORONTO, Dec. 17, 2012, 2012 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- Mobilicity event invites all Torontonians to call loved ones across Canada and abroad for free inside a giant 24-foot snow globe While the holiday season is a time of joy, for those who can't celebrate with out-of-town loved ones, it can be a time of loneliness. According to new research, the majority (62%) of Canadians miss their loved ones more around the holiday season. The survey also found that 73 per cent said if they can't be with friends or family over the holidays, hearing their voices over the telephone is the next best thing.

The City of Toronto estimates that half its population was born outside of Canada. In 2006, Toronto was home to 20 per cent of all immigrants to Canada - resulting in over 140 languages and dialects being spoken in the city. And, Citizenship and Immigration Canada estimates the number of foreign students in Toronto almost doubled from almost 14,000 in 2006 to over 25,000 in 2011 with the largest number of international students coming from China, India and Korea.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: International students unable to go home for the holidays eagerly line up to make a free long-distance call to their loved ones abroad from inside a giant 24-foot holiday snow globe.

Opening the door to the snow globe (and the world) Mobilicity Chief Customer Officer Anthony Booth, along with international students, will officially launch the event by triggering snow to fall inside the giant globe.

Other visuals will include a holiday 'wish tree' and a real-life reindeer.

WHO: International students will be available to discuss what a free phone call home means to them.

Mobilicity Chief Customer Officer Anthony Booth is available for interviews to talk about how Torontonians can spread holiday cheer around the world, one phone call at a time.

Plus, the stars of the popular Canadian multicultural TV show Mangoes will complete the festive vignette inside the globe as they call their loved ones overseas to share holiday greetings.
