McKesson Clear Coverage™ Appraised at CMMI Level 3

NEWTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

Today McKesson Health Solutions announced that the Clear Coverage™ platform has been reappraised at Level 3 of the CMMI Institute's Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), a process improvement training and appraisal program administered by Carnegie Mellon University.

"McKesson's long-standing commitment to quality for our customers is reflected in this achievement," says Mike Wood, Senior Vice President, CIO/CTO at McKesson Health Solutions. "Attaining CMMI Level 3 reaffirms the Clear Coverage team's dedication to defined development processes that help reduce risk, sustain high quality and support continuous process improvement for our customers."

CMMI is a proven approach to performance management that provides guidance for efficient, effective improvement across multiple process disciplines in an organization with an integrated vision of improvement. Implementing this approach can lead to decreased costs and help ensure on-time delivery, higher productivity, superior quality and higher customer satisfaction.

A CMMI Level 3 appraisal means an organization has chieved all the specific and generic goals of the process areas assigned to maturity levels 2 and 3. At maturity level 3, the organization is performing at a "defined" level, meaning processes are well characterized and understood and are described in standards, procedures, tools and methods.

Healthcare's increasing alignment with value-based reimbursement models is making the authorization process more challenging than ever before. Administrative complexity is driving up costs, coverage determination is taking longer, network compliance is more difficult and most importantly, providers and patients do not understand coverage, network choices, and financial responsibility before care is rendered.

Clear Coverage helps quickly solve these problems. As a point-of-care utilization management, coverage determination and network compliance SaaS (News - Alert) platform, Clear Coverage uses InterQual® Criteria to create an automated workflow that connects payers and providers to automate real-time clinical and financial decision-making.

For payers, Clear Coverage helps:

  • Reduce administrative costs by automating medical review, authorization and notifications, and by focusing resources on requests that require a care manager's expertise and time.
  • Provide transparent, immediate access to coverage, medical appropriateness and network rules.
  • Lower medical costs by facilitating consistent application of medically appropriate care and driving in-network referrals.
