MAP Applauds Support for FCC Broadband Access Authority By Civil Rights, Human Rights, Consumer, and Labor Organizations

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 -- The Media Access Project issued the following news release: National civil rights, human rights, consumer, and labor organizations sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission today, urging the agency to adopt a "legally justifiable regulatory framework" so that it may accomplish the goals of its National Broadband Plan.

Tyrone Brown, former FCC Commissioner and President of Media Access Project, issued the following statement in response to the letter: "I applaud the national civil rights, human rights, consumer, and labor organizations who signed this important letter for putting aside disagreements on the specifics of net neutrality policy and encouraging the FCC to reassert its authority to oversee broadband access. FCC authority is integral to the ongoing civil rights effort to connect historically disadvantaged communities to high-speed Internet service." Signatories to the letter were: American Association of People with Disabilities, American Civil Liberties Union, Asian American Justice Center, Benton Foundation, Communications Workers of America, Consumer Action, Consumer Watchdog, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, NAACP, National Consumers League, National Organization for Women, National Urban League, Privacy International, Privacy Lives, Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, Privacy Times, and United Church of Christ, Office of Communication, Inc.
