Mantis Vision Develops Revolutionary, 3D Enabled Tablet

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TEL AVIV, ISRAEL -- (Marketwired) -- 09/18/14 -- Mantis Vision, a developer of some of the world's most advanced 3D enabling technologies and Flextronics (NASDAQ: FLEX), a leading end-to-end global supply chain solutions company, today announced their collaboration and development of the revolutionary, OEM-ready 3D-enabled tablet specifically designed for Dynamic 3D Content Creation, called Aquila.

Aquila is an 8" tablet featuring Mantis Vision's MV4D™ core 3D engine, MV4D Camera Control SDK, and depth sensing components for superior 3D data acquisition and data quality. Powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 801 processor, a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI), a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, Aquila puts the power of 3D content creation in the hands of developers and consumers.

Additionally, app developers will be able to leverage the Smart Terrain™ 3D reconstruction capability of the Qualcomm® Vuforia™ mobile vision platform to create a new level of immersion in augmented reality experiences in shopping and gaming. Qualcomm Vuforia is a product of Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.  Powered by the Snapdragon 801 mobile processor with high performance Qualcomm® Krait™ CPU, leading Qualcomm® Adreno™ and power optimized DSP, the Aquila 3D tablet together with the MV4D SDK allows Android developers to fully integrate 3D video, images and data into their apps, games and content. The Aquila 3D tablet is available to all manufacturers and is expected to be OEM-ready in early 2015.  Additionally, the Aquila 3D tablet leverages the Snapdragon 801 processor's leading class ISP (Image Signal Processing) subsystem to process and synchronize a 13 megapixel main camera simultaneously with a 720P Infra-red camera and projector combination. This enables seamless high-quality video in real time which is overlaid with a dense depth map for precision terrain and object mapping.

"At Mantis Vision, we are ecstatic to be such an integral part of Aquila," said Amihai Loven, CEO, Mantis Vision. "Aquila will be the first tool of its kind for content creators and a variety of commercial and vertical market applications. Because it is available to all developers and OEMs, makers will have unbounded access to a brave new 3D content ecosystem. Along with Flextronics, we are ready to reinvent the 3D experience for everyone, from creators to consumers." "We are thrilled to partner with Mantis Vision to help bring their technology to market," said Mike Dennison, president of Consumer Technologies Group at Flextronics. "Our ability to provide Mantis with new product introduction services, advanced engineering and manufacturing solutions is a great example of the powerful supply chain solutions Flextronics is able to deliver to its customers.

Dennison added, "We continue to be focused on enabling break-through innovations across many technology platforms and industries for our customers." Since its inception, Mantis Vision has been dedicated to bringing 3D content-creation to the masses. After developing the key 3D core of Google's Project Tango tablet, this device is the logical next step for MV4D. The company's technology will be a key component of both professional and consumer level applications across a wide customer base of leading mobile technology companies, application developers and device manufacturers.

Smart Terrain is a capability of the Vuforia SDK that creates a geometric reconstruction of the environment. By leveraging Mantis MV4D technology in the Aquila tablet, Smart Terrain provides faster and more accurate reconstruction, resulting in a higher level of immersion for a variety of AR experiences.
