Man caught with jewelry linked to 15 burglaries, deputies say

An Olivehurst man caught with women's jewelry in his pants pockets Monday has been linked to at least 15 residential burglaries around Yuba-Sutter, according to Yuba County Sheriff's Department.
The Yuba County Sheriff's Department was investigating a residential burglary in the 5500 block of Feather River Boulevard just before 9 a.m. Monday when a deputy spotted a man in the 5900 block of Garden Avenue acting suspicious and abandon a backpack at a nearby residence, according to a press release. The man, Robert Victor Hastings, 26, of the 7000 block of Riverside Drive, was stopped and while talking to the deputy, he produced several pieces of women's jewelry from his pockets.
Hastings was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor traffic violation out of Placer County and the sheriff's department continued to investigate a potential burglary link.
In Hastings' backpack, the deputy found men's watches, several hundred dollars in cash and change and other items that were traced, along with the jewelry, to an unreported residential burglary Monday morning on Park Avenue.
Hastings was connected to the Park Avenue and Feather River Boulevard burglaries and is believed to be responsible for more than 15 unsolved burglaries in Yuba and Sutter Counties.
He was booked into Yuba County Jail on suspicion of burglary, and bail was set at $1 million.
