Maine Virtual Academy Welcomes Families to Enroll for 2016-2017 School Year

AUGUSTA, Maine, Feb. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Maine Virtual Academy (MEVA), a statewide online public charter school, is accepting enrollments for the 2016-2017 school year.  Enrollment is open to students in grades 7-12 who reside anywhere in the state. MEVA is a tuition-free public school option for students who seek an alternative to a traditional brick-and-mortar education.

MEVA incorporates online lessons and instruction from highly-qualified, Maine-licensed teachers who monitor student progress, provide professional insight, and work in partnership with parents. Teachers communicate with students and parents via phone, email and the online classroom technology in order to provide a highly individualized approach that helps prepare students for post-graduation career or college success.

"Maine Virtual Academy is an option for students who need more out of their public education," said Amy Carlisle, Board Chair of MEVA. "We focus on providing an individualized learning plan for every studen, making it possible for our learners to work at their own pace. Depending on how comfortable a student feels with a particular subject, lesson or skill, he or she can move ahead or take more time. That helps us ensure that advanced learners are meeting their full potential and that every student achieves mastery of the concepts."

Students can chose from a diverse Middle school and High school K12 catalog of courses, including many electives that are not offered in traditional schools. Each student has greater freedom to progress through lessons at his or her own pace, while receiving quality instruction, support, and individual attention from teachers.  The school also offers clubs, school outings, dances and other activities to foster community. Because MEVA is a public school, there is no tuition to enroll.

In the coming months, MEVA will host in-person events in communities across the state for families to learn more about the school and meet with teachers and staff. Several online information sessions will also be held. More information on these events can be found online here.

MEVA is authorized by the Maine Charter School Commission and is governed by an independent, non-profit board of directors. The school's team of educators and school leaders are based at the school's administrative headquarters. Interested families are encouraged to visit Mainevirtual.org for more information on the school and how to enroll.
