Lyris Named to San Francisco Business Times ''100 Fastest Growing Private Companies'' List for Third Year Running

BERKELEY, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 2, 2005 -- Lyris(R) Technologies, market leader in high performance email marketing solutions and subsidiary of J.L. Halsey (OTCBB:JLHY), today announced it has been named to the San Francisco Business Times' list of the '100 Fastest Growing Private Companies' in the San Francisco Bay Area for the third consecutive year. The award is co-presented by the San Francisco Business Times and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Since being founded over ten years ago, Lyris Technologies has maintained a record of strong profitability and compound annual growth, including a three-year growth rate of 54.7 percent. Since May of 2000, the company has increased its revenues from $7.9 million to $12.4 million, and this fall released a new service that allows marketers to preview their campaigns in over 35 popular email clients.

"Lyris is honored to once be among this year's 100 fastest growing private companies in the Bay Area once again," said Luis Rivera, Chief Executive Officer of Lyris Technologies. "We've made a lot of important strides as a company in the last few years while continuing to develop the kinds of next-generation email marketing solutions that attract leading businesses and organizations. We look forward to continuing our role as innovators and leaders in the industry, and to entering the next stage of our development as a company."

Lyris was acquired by J.L. Halsey Corporation in May of 2005 -- a deal that was more recently followed by the acquisition of Menlo Park-based EmailLabs. The acquisitions make Halsey the largest publicly held company focused on email marketing technology.

The 15th annual ranking of Fastest-Growing Private Companies compiled by the San Francisco Business Times included companies ranging in size from one employee to nearly 3,000 and in virtually every kind of business from high tech to no-tech. Participating companies must have had at least $200,000 in FY 2002 revenue, and the accounting firm of PriceWaterhouseCoopers verified their financial information.
