Low, mid-priced products to drive smart phone industry: Taiwan research
TAIPEI, Nov 27, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
Low and mid-priced products will be
the major driver for growth in the smart phone industry in 2013,
according to an industry research institute in Taiwan on Tuesday.
Taipei-based Digitimes Research said that smart phone
manufacturers with complete product lines in low and mid-priced
ranges and brand knowledge in newly-emerging markets will enjoy
Those who are familiar with the characteristics of local market
channels and have sound cooperation relations with local carriers
will also benefit.
The research institute predicted that Samsung and Apple will
continue to be the top two smart phone makers in terms of
shipments next year.
Sony, Huawei and ZTE will be third, fourth and fifth,
After replacing Motorola and entering the top 10 in 2012,
Lenovo will rise to sixth in 2013.
HTC, LG Electronics will rank 7th and 8th, respectively.
Blackberry maker RIM and Nokia will fall to 9th and 10th,
respectively, due to poor performance in shipments.
Meanwhile, second-line brands or brands with local prestige
will see growth in shipments. Brands out of the top 10 will
account for 20 percent of the world's smart phones shipments.
