Local firm SRT invests big in STEM education; offers ten top Florida students summer internships in next-generation communications technologies.

DAVIE, Fla., July 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- SRT Group (SRT), a provider of best-in-class communications technology for customers in the government, commercial and law enforcement sectors, announces the participants in its summer 2015 internship program.

SRT's robust internship program – one of the largest for small or medium size companies in south Florida – demonstrates the company's continued commitment to supporting STEM (science, technology, education, mathematics) education in the state.

"At SRT, we seek interns who are excited about our work and passionate about developing the next communications technologies," said Rick Lund, founder and chairman of SRT Group.

"Throughout the program they are given opportunities to demonstrate their skills and explore new areas of expertise, and we recognize their contributions to our success. But this is also our way to help develop the next generation of engineering talent in south Florida. Our company is growing rapidly, and we need top tier local expertise to fill our growing need for talent."

Recruited from Florida's top high schools and universities, interns participate in a range of activities, including product development, applications, embedded software, autonomous vehicles, green technologies, energy efficiency, hardware and technical services, finance and more.

"We create an environment that truly empowers our interns," said John Russell, Chief Marketing Officer for RT Group. "They get to work alongside a world-class team of professionals that are among the very best in the industry. Our hope is this hands-on exposure to helping us develop disruptive, cutting-edge technologies inspires them to continue their engineering education and to stay here once they graduate."

Students participating in the 2015 SRT internship program include: Zainub Baig (Graduate, Florida Atlantic University); Kurt Loudermilk (Junior, University of South Florida); Jason Cassera (Junior, Florida International University); Michael Greene (Junior, Florida Polytechnic University); Krupa Patel (Freshman, University of Florida); Michael Rodriguez (Freshman, Florida Atlantic University); Anthony Filippini (Senior, Calvary Christian Academy); Brandon Greene (Junior, West Boca High School); Daniel Llorens (Junior, Pompano Beach High School); and Alexis Rodriguez (Junior, Cypress Bay High School).

Florida is currently the fourth largest economy in the U.S. For the state to maintain its status as an economic world leader, the Alliance for Science and Technology Research in America projects the state will need to fill 411,000 STEM-related occupations by 2018.
