Local, area school bond issues to be decided today in northeastern Oklahoma [Tulsa World, Okla.]

(Tulsa World (OK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 14-- More than $80 million in bond propositions will be on the ballot Tuesday for patrons of the Union, Jenks, Owasso and Bartlesville school districts.

School board positions also are being contested in area districts. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Union has two school bond propositions totaling $19 million.

Proposition I would pay for the completion of the Union Collegiate Academy, a new fine arts wing at the Sixth and Seventh Grade Center, upgraded tennis and swimming facilities, new textbooks, computer and software needs and equipment for athletics, spirit and fine arts.

Proposition II would pay for as many as 10 school buses and five special education buses. Several Union buses are more than 17 years old, and others have high mileage and need to be replaced, officials said.

Schools bonds require a 60 percent supermajority to pass.

In Jenks, voters will be asked to approve $10.4 million in bond issues, which would pay for textbooks, computer software, desks, projectors, roof repairs, plumbing upgrades, security cameras, fire alarms, completion of renovations to the softball complex and at least two school buses, officials said.

Owasso school patrons will be asked to consider $5 million in bonds for technology upgrades, textbooks and library books, maintenance improvements and school buses.

A $48 million proposition at Bartlesville Public Schools includes proposals to construct a new school, expand several facilities, close Central and Madison middle schools and reorganize the student population. A separate $1.5 million question asks for transportation equipment.

The district hasn't built a new school since 1985.

Kellyville also has a question on the renewal of a 1.5-cent sales tax for public safety and municipal improvements.
