Local Allstate support center looks to fill 100 positions

(Las Cruces Sun-News (NM) (KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jun. 23--LAS CRUCES -- If you need to report a claim with Allstate insurance, your first call might just be handled by someone here in Las Cruces.

Earlier this year, Allstate opened what it calls an express customer support center at 170 Roadrunner Parkway. The company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday. Lilianna Vela, manager of the location, said Allstate started hiring in March and now has 165 employees on hand.

"When we are at full capacity, we'll have 265 employees," she said.

Shelley Frost Beeler, who handles corporate relations for the company's southwest region, said the Las Cruces location is one of nine such centers across the country. She said the express centers handle the first calls being made about a claim.

The call is handled at the express center or routed somewhere else, "depending on the complication of the claim," she said.

Joanne Diaz of El Paso was one of the first employees hired at the center. She started as a claims processor and has advanced into quality assurance.

"We handle (the customer's) claim, whatever they need for an incident," she said.

She said her job now is to make sure the processors are "giving the best quality of customer service."

The call center is approximately

33,000 square feet and is located on the second floor of the Roadrunner Storage building.

Brian Rarick, who helps handle hiring at the facility, said the starting salary for someone with no experience is $10.85 an hour. Full-time employees do have benefits.

"We are staffed from Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to midnight," he said.
