Lloyd?s Names B?rjesson its First Nordic Manager

(BestWire Services Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Erik B?rjesson, an experienced insurance broker in Scandinavia, has been named Lloyd?s first Nordic area manager.

B?rjesson, who will be based in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, comes to Lloyd?s from Marsh AB in Sweden, where he was senior vice president and head of risk management and specialities. He has also worked in Stockholm for Willis.

A graduate of the University of Uppsala Law School in Sweden, B?rjesson has studied maritime law, marine insurance and petroleum law at the Scandinavian Institute for Maritime Law in Oslo, Norway.

Jose Ribeiro, director of international markets for Lloyd?s, said in a statement that B?rjesson has ?extensive experience of insurance solutions in industrial, major accounts and public sector business lines.?

B?rjesson said in a statement that Lloyd?s has ?the potential to play an even more important role in the Nordic insurance market in the future. There is strong interest in Lloyd?s in the Nordic region.?

B?rjesson will seek to strengthen relationships with brokers and clients in the region, which is made up of Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. The area produced more than $600 million ($438 million euros) in gross premiums in 2007, Lloyd?s said.



According to Lloyd?s, the 2007 income was divided almost equally between reinsurance and primary cover. ?The region presents many niche opportunities for profitable diversification of the Lloyd?s market, particularly in energy, aviation and property business,? Lloyd?s said.

Lloyd?s has a current Best?s Financial Strength Rating of A (Excellent).
