Little Beaver State Park Campground Near Major Highway Access, Remote AtmosphereAug 16, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Camping season is still underway in West Virginia, and the newest campground in the West Virginia State Parks system at Little Beaver State Park in Raleigh County is an appealing option for those looking for a remote atmosphere while having major highway access. "The campground is two miles from Interstate I-64 off of Exit 129A," said Monty Ball, Little Beaver State Park ranger. "This campground is very accessible from a major route and is in a scenic part of the state in Raleigh County." Little Beaver Campground opened in July 2011and features 46 sites: 30 sites with water and electric hookups and the remaining 16 with water hookup. Sites are gravel based and the access roads at the campground also are gravel based. The campground can accommodate RV units up to 40-feet. A large bathhouse with laundry facilities is on-site. The campground features a central dump station, check-in building, and wireless Internet access at the camp store. Sites have picnic tables and grills. Firewood and ice are available for purchase. There is no admission to enter Little Beaver State Park. Campsite rentals are $28 per night for water/electric sites and less for water-only hookup. Twenty-three sites are reservable in advance and the other sites are for first-come, first-served travelers. Reservations are available for Labor Day weekend. Little Beaver State Park is a 562-acre recreational area. In addition to the campground, the park's main feature is an 18-acre lake created by a cut rock dam nearly 50 years ago. Fishing for bass, crappie, channel catfish, bluegill and trout is popular. Paddle and rowboats, canoes, and kayaks are rented seasonally. Eighteen miles of trails are maintained. Many trails are designated for mountain biking, a popular activity at the park. The park's location near Beckley and towns of Shady Spring, Beaver, and Daniels offers residents good trails and roadways for hiking and walking-for-exercise. Playgrounds, picnic shelters, geocaching, and a game room are other reasons to visit and enjoy the outdoors with friends and family.
