LinuxWorld San Francisco - Industry Flagship Event - Opens Registration; August event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the kernel and focus on key themes

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- May 8, 2006 -- IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, has announced they will celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the kernel during the August event, highlighting several industry milestones while envisioning the future of Linux. In addition, the content for the show will feature a strong spotlight on five key technology themes - enterprise applications, virtualization, SOA, mobile and embedded Linux, and open source development - making it a "must-attend" event for anyone involved in the Linux and open source community. LinuxWorld Conference & Expo San Francisco, the largest and most comprehensive event that focuses exclusively Linux and open source, is scheduled to take place August 14-17, 2006 at the Moscone Center.

During the past 15 years, Linux has experienced significant success, spanning a multitude of markets including data centers, back-office servers, embedded systems, grid computing and high-performance computing. Linux first gained momentum in 1998 when its use reached a mainstream audience of systems administrators. Since that time it continued to grow and thrive through the crash of the dot com era, to the release of its most recent incarnation in 2004 which included several new enterprise features such as mobile device support, highly scalable memory management (NUMA), improved performance, and support for Pentium 4 hyperthreading. LinuxWorld San Francisco will commemorate these significant events in Linux history, and look ahead to the future of Linux during the August Expo.

"Attendees will see sessions and conference tracks that are relevant to every industry under the Linux and open source umbrella represented at this summer's event," said Melinda Kendall, group vice president, IDG World Expo. "LinuxWorld is a place where the foremost authorities in the industry come to explore best practices and strategies for success, from developers and system administrators to network managers and strategic levels of IT, plus the channel and VC's, they're all there. We're proud to be the one venue where the entire community converges."
