Leostream Connection Broker implemented by Portugal Telecom
(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Virtual hosted desktop software developer Leostream Corporation announced on Monday that telecoms provider Portugal Telecom (PT) has deployed the Leostream Connection Broker to connect 5,000 end-users at its call centres to virtual desktops.
Based on the success of the deployment, the operator plans to extend the solution and replace all of its desktops, eventually covering all 9,000 end-users at the organisation in its hosted virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). No financial details were disclosed.
According to the company, the Leostream Connection Broker is a centralised management layer for hosted VDI that delivers desktop images hosted in the data centre to users' thin client, laptop, workstation or web interface.
The solution allows IT managers to leverage existing IT investments by integrating an array of clients, back-end systems and viewers to create a hosted VDI. In addition, the Connection Broker integrates with existing network infrastructure with no changes to essential data centre systems, such as authentication services and SSL VPNs.
The solution offers PT the following benefits: administrative ease-of-management; end-user ease-of-use; and support for Linux; enterprise-class scalability; as well as strong support, the company said.
The complete solution included the Leostream Connection Broker, VMware VirtualCenter and ESX 3.5, as well as Wyse S10 thin clients.
