Lebanon programmers to battle at AUB [The Daily Star, Beirut, Lebanon]


(Daily Star, The (Beirut, Lebanon) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 18--BEIRUT -- Student programmers from various Lebanese universities will compete at the American University of Beirut later this month to earn a chance at participating in an international computer science competition.



The second annual Lebanese Collegiate Programming Competition will launch on Friday September 26 2014. It will be organized by AUB's Computer Science Department, the university announced in a press release Wednesday.

Students representing more than 13 universities will be organized into 20 groups of three and the the best student programmers in Lebanon will qualify to enter the International Collegiate Programming Competition.


Registration for the competition will begin on the 26th, at the Bathish Auditorium in AUB's West Hall. Teams can register their members starting at 2:30 p.m.

The participants will also attend a mandatory technical/training session, after listening to a speech delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science Patrick McGriffy.

The actual competition will be held at the College Hall's B1 room the next day from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m., and a lunch will be available for participants.

The programmers will be then invited to a dinner ceremony in the Commodore Hotel Saturday night, where the winners will be provided their prizes.

The competition is restricted to young men and women who are enrolled at one of Lebanon's universities, and who are willing and ready to participate in the world competition. Each team should be headed by a coach, who is preferably not one of the contestants.

The only three programming languages that will be used in the competition are C, C++, and Java.
