TOKYO - Former Livedoor Co. President Takafumi Horie has admitted to part of the accounting fraud charges against the Internet and financial services firm after having denied any wrongdoing since his arrest in January, prosecution sources said Wednesday.



The sources told Kyodo News that Horie recently admitted to having padded Livedoor's sales in 2004 by about 1.58 billion yen, booked as profit from a false deal with a company Livedoor was then in talks with over a possible acquisition.

---------- Usen basically agrees to help Livedoor, buy Fuji-held shares



TOKYO - Usen Corp., Japan's major cable broadcaster, has basically agreed to form a business tie-up with Livedoor Co. in portal website-linked businesses and buy all Livedoor shares held by Fuji Television Network Inc. from the broadcaster, industry sources said Wednesday.

An announcement will be made when Usen President Yasuhide Uno and Livedoor President Kozo Hiramatsu hold a press conference Thursday evening, the sources said.

---------- 4 bodies found after house fire in Niigata

NIIGATA, Japan - Four people died in a fire at a family home in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture, on Wednesday evening, police said.

The police said six people were in the house of Genshichi Bushimata when the fire broke out -- Bushimata, 78, his wife Hana, 79, their grandchildren Emi, 11, Miho, 8, and Sho, 5, and the children's mother Mayumi, 41 -- and that four bodies have been recovered though their identities are not yet known.

---------- Ex-Taiwan leader Lee may visit Japan from May 10

TAIPEI - Former Taiwan President Lee Teng-hui told reporters in Taipei on Wednesday that he has been working out details to visit Japan for 10 days to two weeks from May 10.

Lee's aide said the itinerary could be shortened depending on the schedule of his wife, Tseng Wen-hui, and their granddaughter, who will be traveling with him.
