TOKYO - The government is considering mapping out an additional economic policy program worth 10 trillion yen in the planned second extra budget for fiscal 2009 to support small and midsize firms, industry minister Masayuki Naoshima said Monday.
Naoshima also told reporters that the government will try to secure 1 trillion yen of actual spending for the policy program.
---------- BOJ to cut governor's yearly salary to 34.92 million yen
TOKYO - The Bank of Japan said Monday it will lower its executives' salaries from fiscal 2009, with the governor's yearly salary cut by 860,000 yen to 34.92 million yen.
The yearly salary for the deputy governor will be reduced by 680,000 yen to 27.59 million yen and that for a Policy Board member by 650,000 yen to 26.46 million yen.
---------- Oct. orders for chip-making equipment log 1st rise in over 2 yrs
TOKYO - Orders for Japanese-made semiconductor-manufacturing equipment placed by domestic and overseas chipmakers in October logged the first rise since February 2007, as chipmakers began updating their facilities in view of recovering demand, an industry body said Monday.
The value of the orders rose 66 percent in the reporting month from a year earlier to about 65 billion yen, the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan said.
---------- Japan trade minister Naoshima to attend WTO ministerial talks
TOKYO - Japanese trade minister Masayuki Naoshima said Monday he will attend the ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization that opens the same day in Geneva, Switzerland, to help give momentum to its stalled Doha Round of global trade liberalization talks.
Naoshima, minister of economy, trade and industry, also said he will hold talks with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma on the sidelines of the 153-member organization's three-day ministerial meeting.
---------- Japan stays out of currency markets in Nov. for 68th month
TOKYO - Japanese monetary authorities went without intervening in the foreign exchange market in November for the 68th straight month, the Finance Ministry said Monday.
The ministry said it did not conduct any currency market interventions via the Bank of Japan from Oct. 29 to Nov. 26.
---------- Domestic vehicle output dives 19% in Oct., down for 13th month
TOKYO - Japan's domestic vehicle production dropped 19.1 percent in October from a year earlier to 820,910 units, marking the 13th straight monthly decline, an industry body said Monday.
The rate of decline was the biggest for the month of October since 1966, when comparable data became available, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said.
