NEW YORK - General Motors Corp. produced an estimated 8,152,000 vehicles worldwide in 2008, down 12 percent from the previous year, GM officials said Monday, making it certain that Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. will remain the world's largest automaker in terms of output.



Late last year, Toyota said its global output will likely come to 9,230,000 vehicles in 2008, down 3 percent.

---------- Obama upbeat on passage of stimulus plan by early Feb.


WASHINGTON - President-elect Barack Obama said Monday he expects Congress to approve his proposed hundreds of billions of dollars in fresh stimulus spending by early February.

"I expect to sign a bill to create 3 million jobs for the American people shortly after I get inaugurated," he told reporters after a meeting of his economic team. "We anticipate that by the end of January or the first week in February."

---------- Dollar trades at lower 93 yen level in early Tokyo deals

TOKYO - The U.S. dollar traded at the lower 93 yen level early Tuesday in Tokyo, down slightly from its levels late Monday in New York.

At 9 a.m., the dollar was quoted at 93.18-23 yen against Monday's 5 p.m. quotes of 93.44-54 yen in New York and 92.01-03 yen in Tokyo.

---------- Toyota to suspend domestic output 11 more days

NAGOYA - Toyota Motor Corp. will further trim its production by suspending operations for an additional 11 days at its Japanese factories between February and March, Toyota officials said Tuesday.
