Korea Republic of : SK TELECOM inks MoU with SAMSUNG for 5G, Internet of Things R&D [TendersInfo (India)]


(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SK Telecom, South Korean giants, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Samsung Electronics to start joint research on 5G network technology and service development.

Under the MoU, the companies will responsible for cooperating on a shared 5G vision with standardization groups and technology forums in and out of the country, define and select frequency bands suitable for the implementation of 5G technology, and conduct research and development.



In addition, they even accepted to experiment on enabling technologies, including the next generation small cell, massive MIMO and next-generation modulation/demodulation, along with setting up large volume and high-quality services for 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Kyungwhoon Cheun, senior vice president and head of the communications research team of DMC R&D Center at Samsung Electronics, commented "The 5G communications system needs an ecosystem where operators and manufacturers cooperate in areas of related standards, devices, network equipment, new services and etc. Through this opportunity of cooperation between the two companies, therefore, I believe Korea will continue to lead mobile communications network in 5G as it does in 4G."
