Kilpatrick named business director [The Laurinburg Exchange, N.C.]

(Laurinburg Exchange, The (NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 23--LAURINBURG -- Veteran newspaper executive Kent Kilpatrick has been named a regional business development director for Civitas Media effective Sept. 15. The announcement was made by Michael Bush, president and CEO of the Davidson, N.C.-based company.

Kilpatrick will be based out of The Robesonian in Lumberton and will oversee all revenue operations for the company's southern North Carolina and South Carolina markets. He succeeds Rick Bacon, who held the position until his death in August.

"My goal is to inspire and lead this extremely talented group of marketing professionals to greater successes and accomplishments," Kilpatrick said. "I am excited about working with our sales leaders and our marketing experts in the field in helping our many advertising partners increase their business with our product suite." Kilpatrick most recently was regional general manager for Civitas papers in Jacksonville and Alton, Ill., and Sedalia, Mo. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of San Diego with a bachelor's degree in business administration. In his 27 years in newspapers, he has held positions ranging from advertising director to publisher to chief financial officer. Prior to moving to Jacksonville eight years ago, Kilpatrick worked in Gastonia, Shelby and Jacksonville in North Carolina and Greenville in Mississippi.

"My family and I have really enjoyed our time in Illinois and will miss our many friends and colleagues. But the opportunity to return home to North Carolina was very appealing," Kilpatrick said.

He will be joined by his wife, Connie, in the Lumberton area. Their sons, Andrew and Matthew, attend Evangel University in Springfield, Mo.

Civitas Media encompasses more than 100 publications, many of which have served their communities for more than a century. Civitas, Latin for "community" or "citizen" is a union of four media entities formerly known as Heartland Publications, Freedom Central, Impressions Media and Ohio Community Media.
