Kickboard Names Ed Tech Industry Veteran Stefan Kohler as CEO

Kickboard, an award-winning education technology company based in New Orleans, today announced that Stefan Kohler (News - Alert) has been named CEO. The news comes after a nationwide search prompted by founder and CEO Jennifer Medbery's announcement in June that she was stepping down from the CEO role to make way for new leadership as the company expands to meet increasing market demand for school culture guidance and management systems.

With nearly 20 years experience in the education technology market, Kohler has held a range of senior management positions throughout his career. For the past three years he served as executive vice president of Solution Tree, where he was responsible for the company's marketing, sales, technology and business development divisions. Kohler's previous senior leadership positions include president of Pearson Services Division, general manager of Scholastic Reading Intervention Division and CEO of Virtual Ink.

Launched in 2009, Kickboard is the maker of the Kickboard school culture system, a configurable, web-based platform used by K-12 educators to improveschool culture through positive behavior reinforcement, intervention management, classroom management, and district-wide school culture analysis. This unique combination of features allows schools and districts to directly impact student achievement, attendance, discipline, and more. The company has raised $2.8 million in seed and A round funding from investors including New Market Venture Partners and Two Sigma Ventures, among others.

"Due to Jen's leadership, Kickboard has built strong market awareness and a loyal customer base. Jen has done an excellent job of highlighting the importance and impact of a strong, positive school culture as a key lever for improving student outcomes. Education leaders are paying attention and, thanks to Jen's efforts, the company is poised for strong growth and expansion," said Kohler. "I'm excited to bring my experience to Kickboard to help the company achieve impact at scale and continue to lead the climate and culture movement in K-12 education."

"Schools that implement Kickboard have improved employee satisfaction, morale and retention, and reduced problems such as discipline referrals, suspensions, bullying and chronic absenteeism," said Medbery. "I am thrilled to have Stefan at the helm so I can spend more time working directly with education leaders to help them realize real and lasting results that change students' and teachers' lives for the better."
