Kazakh National Bank forecasts drop in inflation to 1.4%-1.6% in Q2

(Interfax News Agency Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)ALMATY. March 24 (Interfax) - The National Bank of Kazakhstan has forecast that inflation will total 2.3%-2.5% in the first quarter of 2006 and 1.4%-1.6% in the second quarter.

"Inflation is expected to total 2.3%-2.5% in the first quarter of 2006. Inflation will drop to 1.4%-1.6% in the second quarter as a result of seasonal factors," the bank said in a release posted on its website.

Foodstuffs accounted for the highest growth rates in the beginning of 2006, the release says.

Inflation amounted to 0.9% in Kazakhstan in January 2006 and 1.5% in February.

Kazakhstan had annual inflation of 7.5% in 2005. tj
