The assistant manages day-to-day responsibilities, including the mayor's correspondence, scheduling, meeting and event preparation.

Sprint call center still hiring Sprint continues to hire for its Rancho Cordova call center. The telecom company is seeking customer-retention specialists to work at the facility at 3068 Kilgore Road, Rancho Cordova. Pay starts at $13.94 an hour, and the candidate should have at least three years of sales experience, have strong computer skills and know the telecom industry.

Early morning career event Rise and shine for a free early morning career event on May 20.

"Getting You Back To Work!" is from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Rancho Cordova City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova.

Job seekers will receive resume advice and interviewing tips and can take advantage of video resume services.

The event will feature local employers, including VSP Vision Care, Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente.

Workshops are planned from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Topics include submitting online resumes, marketing and standing out in today's job market.

"We're promoting this as a community service event and are providing career advice in general. So many we're seeing had been in their jobs 20 years or more" before becoming unemployed, said Julie Hagan Porter, senior vice president of local employment agency Roth Staffing Cos., the event's co-sponsor with the city of Rancho Cordova.

"We're trying to give them skills and resources. We want to leave them with a little more hope," she said.

Breakfast will be available, and all attendees will receive a "Candidate Toolkit and Community Resource Guide" from Roth Staffing.

Library offers skills sessions Job seekers can learn how to get a leg up on the competition at a free seminar at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sacramento Public Library's Fair Oaks branch.

The hourlong session, "How to Research Companies Using Internet Databases," teaches participants how to access information such as a company's portfolio and earnings estimates, products, services and market share data.

The library is at 11601 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks.

Also, a free session on "Planning, Organizing, and Conducting an Effective Job Search Campaign" will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the library's Carmichael branch, 5605 Marconi Ave.

Free resume copies offered Staples is the latest office supply retailer to offer free resume printing. The stores will offer customers 40 free business cards and 20 free resume copies through June 13 as part of its "Staples Career Stimulus" promotion.
