Jewelry Television Partners with Beads of Courage

Knoxville, TN, Feb 23, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Jewelry Television(R) (JTV), the world's largest retailer of fine jewelry and loose gemstones, recently announced a partnership with the nonprofit organization Beads of Courage(R) (BOC). The project is set to run through Feb. 29 and will support BOC's mission of honoring children who receive treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses by providing funding for beads.

The Beads of Courage program - currently implemented in more than 100 children's hospitals throughout the U.S., New Zealand and Japan - allows recovering children to tell the story of their personal journey with jewelry made from colorful beads. The beads, representing different procedures and milestones in their treatment, serve both as comfort objects and meaningful symbols of courage.

"The Beads of Courage Program provides a way to acknowledge the incredible courage demonstrated by children facing serious illness," said Jean Baruch, Beads of Courage founder and executive director. "Each bead is symbolic in a child's journey and the support we receive from organizations like JTV helps us to provide these beads for children around the globe." During the month of February, Jewelry Television will give customers the chance to support Beads of Courage(R) by adding a monetary donation to their purchase. The funds will be used by BOC to provide beads to more than 30,000 children.

"In many cultures, beads have long-served as symbols of bravery and accomplishment," said Jeffrey Banks, divisional merchandising manager for JTV's Jewel School. "Jewelry Television is proud to honor these qualities in the Beads of Courage program participants receiving treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses."
