Japan, France agree to cooperate on anti-terror technology+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)PARIS, Jan. 18_(Kyodo) _ Japan and France agreed Tuesday to cooperate on researching and developing technology to detect explosives and other hazardous materials that terrorists may use.

The agreement was reached in a meeting in Paris between Iwao Matsuda, visiting Japanese state minister in charge of science and technology, and Francois Goulard, French minister of higher education and research of France.

"It is desirable to get as many countries as possible involved in research and development," said Matsuda, who reached a similar agreement with Britain on Monday.

Japan will urge the United States to join the research and development cooperation, and France will urge European Union member countries to do the same, according to Matsuda.
