iVantage Health Analytics® Supports First Rural Medicine Hackathon

iVantage will participate in the nation's first rural medicine hackathon scheduled for March 20-22, 2015 in Missoula, Montana. The Frontier Medicine Better Health Partnership (FMBHP) is collaborating with students at MIT (News - Alert) Hacking Medicine to host Montana's first live Medicine H@ckathon event in 2015. This event will focus on the unique challenges faced by rural and frontier communities.

John Legelis, chief technology officer of iVantage, will deliver an Ignite® presentation, focusing on how prescriptive analytics have generated actionable insights and enabled successful population-based initiatives in rural Montana. In addition, Donald Bialek, MD, iVantage's chief medical officer will serve as a mentor and thought leader at the event. A seasoned expert in the healthcare field, he has been instrumental in bringing clinical and operational perspective to his work in quality, physician engagement, clinical operations and informatics.

iVantage will also provide secure access to its INDEX data, the source for the company's annual Hospital Strength INDEX analysis of the performance of US acute care hospitals. The company's clinicians and public health experts will join in challenging the participating entrepreneurs, engineers, students, medical residents, programmers, and designers to develop new and innovative solutions that can impact chronic disease management, telemedicine, population health, electronic medical records, and the quality of care in rural communities.

Michael Topchik, senior vice president of iVantage commented, "Each year, iVantage leverages the Hospital Strength INDEX to evaluate hospital performance and turns the spotlight on the unique challenges that rural hospital face. This year, we evaluated the 47 rural hospitals which closed since 2010 and developed the Vulnerability Index™, which indicates that 283 additional rural hospitals located across the country may face significant challenges and are now vulnerable to closure. The good news is that the INDEX analysis showed that 14 Montana hospitals delivered top performance and were named HEALTHSTRONG hospitals, including those serving the rural communities in the state:

  • BARRETT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
  • BEARTOOTH BILLINGS CLINIC
  • BENEFIS HOSPITALS
  • BILLINGS CLINIC HOSPITAL
  • BOZEMAN DEACONESS HOSPITAL
  • CENTRAL MONTANA MEDICAL CENTER
  • COMMUNITY HOSPITAL OF ANACONDA
  • FRANCES MAHON DEACONESS HOSPITAL
  • HEALTH CENTER NORTHWEST
  • KALISPELL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
  • LIVINGSTON HEALTHCARE
  • PHILLIPS COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER
  • ST PATRICK HOSPITAL
  • ST VINCENT HEALTHCARE

"Inspired by that analysis," Topchik added, "We are particularly pleased to present the findings of our work in rural Montana and hope that our contribution of data and thought leadership will generate innovative solutions for the health of rural communities and the hospitals who serve them."
