Three Categories Aim to Recognize Ongoing Commitment by Information Security Leaders to Professionalize Workforce in Asia-Pacific

HONG KONG, June 18 /Xinhua-PRNewswire / -- (ISC)2(R) ("ISC-squared"), the non-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers, today announced it has opened nominations for its second annual Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA) Program.

The ISLA, begun last year as part of (ISC)2's global Awards Program, recognizes the ongoing commitment by information security leaders in Asia-Pacific to build a highly qualified and ethical information security workforce. Professionals can be nominated in three distinct categories:

-- Senior Non-IT Security Professional (examples include: Chief
Information Officer, Chief Financial Officer, program/project
manager, etc.) who has significantly contributed to the enhancement
of the IT security workforce by demonstrating a leadership role in
any IT security workforce improvement initiative, program or project.
Candidates in this category typically should have at least ten years
of work experience and occupy a senior-level position within their
organization.

-- Senior IT Security Professional (examples include: Chief Security
Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, IT Security Manager or
senior security manager with significant IT security management
responsibilities) who has significantly contributed to the
enhancement of the IT security workforce by demonstrating a
leadership role in any IT security workforce improvement initiative,
program or project. Candidates in this category typically should
have at least ten years of work experience, seven of which are
directly related to IT Security.

-- IT Security Practitioner who has distinguished him/herself for
implementing and/or managing the implementation of a component of a
security program (examples include: managing a security awareness
and training program, conducting difficult, complex security
evaluations, etc.). Candidates in this category typically should
have at least six years work experience, three of which, should be,
directly related to IT Security.

"The (ISC)2 Asian Advisory Board felt last year's ISLA went a long way toward recognizing individuals who have significantly enhanced the IT security workforce; therefore, the board is resolute to continue the effort," says Dr Lee Jae-woo, co-chair for the (ISC)2 Asian Advisory Board (AAB). "We learned from our experience last year and are confident that this year's program will reflect the evolving workforce landscape in Asia-Pacific. We look forward to celebrating those industry leaders whom have made great strides on behalf of the workforce this year."

Last year, at the inaugural ISLA ceremony, (ISC)2 recognized 27 honorees and showcased distinguished workforce initiatives, led by four honorees. They were:

-- Senior Non-IT Security Professional category: Dr. San-Cheng (Simon)
Chang, CEO, Acer (News - Alert) e-Enabling Data Centre (eDC), Acer, Inc., Taiwan.
Dr. Chang was recognized for his dedication in building the Security
Operation Centre, or SOC, of Acer that resulted in more secure
customer support.

-- Senior IT Security Professional category: Professor Jian-Hua Li,
executive deputy dean, School of Information Security Engineering,
Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. Prof Li was honored for his
leadership in building the Information Security Engineering School
to resolve the shortage of information security professionals in
China.

-- Senior IT Security Professional category: Professor Dato' Dr. Norbik
Bashah Bin Idris, CISSP, technical director, SCAN Associates
Berhad,Malaysia. Professor Norbik was recognized for his tremendous
focus on nurturing new talents as well as innovation within the
information security industry.

-- IT Security Practitioner category: Mr. Siu Cheong (SC) Leung, CISSP,
CISA, CBCP, founding chairperson of Professional Information
Security Association (PISA), currently senior consultant of the Hong
Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT),
Hong Kong, China. Mr. Leung was honored for his dedicated effort to
promote product-neutral security awareness to the public.

A nominations committee comprised of members from the AAB will review and select honorees from the three categories, based upon the selection criteria and eligibility requirements. The AAB includes volunteer, senior-level information security professionals responsible for counseling (ISC)2 on policies, trends and certification needs within the Asia-Pacific region. (ISC)2 officials will honor the ISLA honorees on October 28, 2008, during a gala dinner ceremony in Seoul, South Korea.
