IRAN, ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF : Iran introduces 9 locally made supercomputers to the National Grid [TendersInfo (India)]
(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The President of Iran's Vice president on science and technology Nasrin Soltanzadeh has announced the plans of her country to introduce nine locally made supercomputers into the National Grid by the end of this year (the Iranian year ends on March 20).
The setting up of a National Grid network comprising a total of 11 supercomputers has been planned in the country.
In 2011, Iran has already presented two locally-designed and made supercomputers in Tehran's Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT), and Esfahan University of Technology.
During the ceremony last year, President Ahmadinejad motivated Iranian scientists and researchers to increase their self-confidence, saying that his country must become "a scientific and technological reference for the world."
Iran has also been able to become one of the world's ten countries that design and make supercomputers in a short time.
Amirkabir University's supercomputer features a power of 34,000 billion operations per second, and a speed of 40 gigahertz. The work was carried out by a group of 20 researchers of the country from the electricity and computer faculties.
The other supercomputer project implemented out by Esfahan University of Technology is one of the world's top 500 supercomputers.
