Intoxalock Calls Other States to Replicate Arizona's Steps to Strengthen Drunk Driving and Ignition Interlock Laws Statewide

DES MOINES, Iowa, May 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Earlier this week, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed SB 1150 into law. Effective July 1, 2018, the new law will regulate Arizona's ignition interlock device (IID) requirements and processes, making Arizona's program one of the most cutting edge in the country.

With the best practices outlined in the new law, Arizona’s ignition interlock program will be an effective model for other states to replicate.

"With the best practices outlined in the new law, Arizona's ignition interlock program will be an effective model for other states to replicate," said Brad Fralick, Intoxalock Director of Government Relations.

"Arizona is taking huge steps in the right direction in the fight against drunk driving. Lives will be saved and the roads will be safer for everybody. We support advanced technology and a strict interlock program to maximize the effectiveness of ignition interlocks and believe that all states should make the changes Arizona is making," he said.

Fralick contends the most important change this law brings is the type of ignition interlock device that must be installed. Once effective, IIDs will have to include advanced technology capabilities -- like GPS tracking, real-time reporting and cameras -- that make interlock rograms more effective and transparent. "States that have implemented advanced technology requirements are experiencing broader benefits such as successful enforcement of compliance-based removal. By requiring a period of compliance as a condition that must be met before the device is removed, the probability of the interlock user reoffending will decrease."

Other notable facets of the law include: ignition interlock vendors and service centers are required to obtain specific insurance; set vendor bond requirement and jurisdiction requirements to ensure that the interlock providers in the state are committed to making the process convenient for Arizona drivers.

In addition, ignition interlock vendors must have at least one installation location in every county throughout the state. And, the Department of Transportation will be allowed to increase the time periods between required servicing of the interlock devices.

Intoxalock currently has 59 certified installation locations in Arizona. With 24/7 bilingual customer service, an easy-to-use device and special pricing discounts. Intoxalock is committed to being the interlock leader in the state. With more than 2,000 service and installation centers nationwide, Intoxalock is the largest ignition interlock supplier in the U.S. with more locations than any other provider.
