Intervoice Outlines IMS Support in Omvia Media Exchange at 3GSM Barcelona

DALLAS --(Business Wire)-- Feb. 14, 2006 -- Intervoice OMX Offers High-Value Enhanced Services, While Offering Investment Protection for Network Operators Contemplating Transition to IMS Network Architecture

Intervoice (Nasdaq:INTV), a world leader in converged voice and data solutions, has announced support for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network architectures in its Omvia(TM) Media Exchange platform (OMX).

The Intervoice OMX offering removes the need for operators to decide whether to focus their services model on costly IMS or current generation networks, by providing a deployment model that allows service delivery today with a clear path to IMS at a future date. IMS defines a next generation network architecture that embraces Internet Protocol (IP) based connectivity management, media and content delivery models. Developed and specified by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and originally envisaged for mobile networks, the rapid spread of fixed-network broadband has made IMS increasingly relevant to fixed operators as well.

OMX is a rich and flexible Service Deployment Platform (SDP) that supports numerous ready-to-run applications, such as messaging, call management and content distribution. The platform also provides a rich application framework designed for large scale deployments of custom applications and leverages a robust underlying platform that supports voice recognition, web browser, and multi-modal user interface technologies. OMX provides all of the infrastructure management, integration, and content metering capabilities to enable operators to reduce cost and time to market with new enhanced services deployments. The OMX architecture and application suites give mobile and fixed-line network operators leverage over and investment protection of their existing infrastructure, while providing a clear route to IMS architected networks.

Mike Polcyn, Chief Technology Officer at Intervoice commented: "Intervoice's approach is both pragmatic and leading edge in accepting that, while pure IMS networks are still some years away, most network operators will own current generation and hybrid networks for many years to come.

"By taking advantage of next generation application development and deployment models, Intervoice is allowing operators to deploy rich, enhanced services applications today and to run pure IMS networks or hybrid networks that support traditional and IP network architectures.

"Intervoice embraces standards-based technologies and we are leading the way in providing convergence-ready products for both our carrier and enterprise customer base. As with many standards, adoption does not occur overnight, therefore, our technology approach focuses on providing best in class software platforms and applications while abstracting details of network and infrastructure, thereby providing flexibility and investment protection for our customers. In the context of the 3GPP standards, Intervoice's approach minimises the risk of migration to IMS, while delivering functionally-rich services today.

"Omvia Media Exchange provides the ideal platform for complex call flows requiring timely user interaction. Applications like speech-driven voice and video mail are examples of the complex applications to which Omvia Media Exchange is well suited. Applications can be deployed as complete entities or as a collection of scripts invoked from the Service Delivery Layer. This simplifies application development at the Service Delivery Layer. This approach maintains compatibility with currently defined IMS standards."
