International District Energy Association Elects Dennis Fotinos Chairman
ORLANDO, Fla. --(Business Wire)-- Dennis Fotinos, President and CEO of Enwave Energy Corporation, was elected 2008-2009 chair of the International District Energy Association (IDEA) at the organization's annual meeting held at its 99th Annual Conference & Trade Show in Orlando, Fla. Mr. Fotinos previously served as vice-chairman of IDEA and has been an IDEA member since 1998.
"I am excited to be elected to serve as Chair of IDEA at this moment in time, as the challenges of climate change demand our best efforts to use energy more efficiently and more intelligently, as we have been doing at Enwave Energy in Toronto," said Fotinos. "The district energy industry holds great potential to support and achieve in the near term the carbon reduction targets of mayors, university presidents, and community leaders around the globe. IDEA is an important resource to inform, connect and advance the district energy industry to deliver the environmental benefits our citizens demand and our children deserve."
As CEO, Mr. Fotinos' entrepreneurial drive guided Enwave Energy Corporation to profitability during a period of high volatility in the energy market. Under his leadership, Enwave developed the world-renowned Deep Lake Water Cooling project in Toronto, sold all its heating capacity and established its reputation as a leading corporate citizen by supporting the arts, education and important social causes. He is currently guiding the company's venture into new initiatives, which include cogeneration, geothermal energy and carbon credit trading.
Mr. Fotinos initiated and executed the corporate reorganization that established Enwave Energy Corporation, a fully integrated, sustainable energy services provider, which has operations in Toronto and Windsor, Ontario, while serving as Chairman of the Board of the Toronto District Heating Corporation (TDHC). In 2000, he joined the management team as Executive Vice President where he developed the business and marketing strategies that brought the company's capabilities to market. In March 2001, he was appointed President and CEO.
"IDEA is fortunate to have Dennis Fotinos to chair our board of directors during this period of serious global energy challenges," said Robert P. Thornton, president of IDEA. "His service as Chair will be instrumental to our organization's continuing growth and success as we launch IDEA into its second century of service to the district energy industry."
Mr. Fotinos currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian District Energy Association. He is an active member in the Toronto community and has committed his time and energy over the years to a number of professional and charitable organizations ranging from the National Ballet of Canada to the Ontario Lung Association.
Mr. Fotinos holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and Schulich School of Business and a BA in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Toronto. He served as an elected member of regional and local governments in the City of Toronto from 1991 to 1999.
