Internal Medicine marks 40 years
Jun 07, 2009 (Opelika-Auburn News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Employees at Internal Medicine Associates P.C., a doctor's office in Opelika, gathered at Spring Villa Park on Saturday to celebrate 40 years of serving the Lee County community at their 40th anniversary picnic.
They had ribs, chicken, barbecue, sweet tea, sides and dessert.
"It's a pretty big milestone," Hamilton Moore, administrator at Internal Medicine, said.
Dr. Michael Gunter, doctor and president at Internal Medicine added, "It amazes me. To me that's a long time to be in service."
Dr. Joanne Smith T. has worked at Internal Medicine for more than 30 years. She said a lot has changed in that time.
She said there's a lot more employees, including doctors, on staff. There are also a lot more patients.
"I enjoy looking back now and seeing how long they've (the patients) been coming. Some have been there since the very beginning," she said.
Joyce Spratlin, an employee at Internal Medicine, began working at Internal Medicine when she was 24 in 1970, one year after the doctor's office opened.
"Quality of care is still the same," she said. "Which is excellent of course. Life was a bit different then. The pace was a bit slower."
She added, "It's an absolute pleasure to work with people you admire. It's busy from seven in the morning until we get finished."
