Intermountain Healthcare Welcomes Visit of Institute for Healthcare Improvement

SALT LAKE CITY --(Business Wire)--

Intermountain Healthcare will host the Fall meeting of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Massachusetts-based, nonprofit organization that is leading healthcare improvement initiatives around the world. The visit will take place on September 16 and 17 and will provide an opportunity for the leadership of the two organizations to share insights into improving health and healthcare in the United States and abroad.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement is leading initiatives in six regions of the world - North America, Europe, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific - focusing on patient safety; quality, cost, nd value; triple aim for populations; person- and family-centered care; and improvement capability. These topics have long been priorities at Intermountain Healthcare, which has for many years trained healthcare leaders from around the world through the Intermountain Institute for Health Care Delivery Research.

The leadership of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and of Intermountain Healthcare have a long history of working together. Brent James, MD, chief quality officer at Intermountain Healthcare, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and has served as IHI faculty at conferences and seminars. Arnold Milstein, MD, MPH, director of the Stanford Clinical Excellence Research Center, is on the board of both organizations.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement also recently announced the creation of the IHI Leadership Alliance, of which Intermountain Healthcare is a founding member. The Alliance brings together leading healthcare systems in the United States and abroad to focus on the dual challenge of delivering superior healthcare and high value within their systems today, while simultaneously developing innovative new models of the future.

Intermountain Healthcare looks forward to welcoming the Institute for Healthcare Improvement to Utah, which is increasingly renowned for the quality of its healthcare. A recent study by Wallet Hub, the financial analysis company ranked Utah among the top two states (along with Minnesota) for healthcare return on investment. According to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, Utah also has the lowest per capita healthcare costs in the nation.
