Interactive Intelligence Customer Engagement Cloud Solution Achieves HIPAA Compliance

PureCloud Engage? by Interactive Intelligence (News - Alert) Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ININ) has achieved compliance with the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

PureCloud Engage is an omnichannel customer engagement cloud solution based on microservice architecture running atop the Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) Cloud. It gives healthcare organizations of all sizes fast deployment, easy management, maximum security and continuous delivery of the most innovative customer engagement, communications and collaboration applications. Combined with month-to-month, pay-as-you-go subscription terms, healthcare organizations get a high-value, low-risk cloud solution.

"Our HIPAA compliance means security-minded industries like healthcare can confidently take advantage of the cloud's simplicity, flexibility and cost-effectiveness to power a superior customer experience," said Mike Szilagyi, vice president of product management for Interactive Intelligence. "Healthcare organizations of any size are assured that PureCloud Engage will transmit sensitive data such as patient records, medical transcripts and lab records in a way that meets all the requirements outlined by HIPAA's rigorous security standards."

Interactive Intelligence engaged leading IT security firm, Rook Security, to perform an independent evaluation to validate its compliance. In its report, Rook concluded that PureCloud Engage handles electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) in accordance with the federal HIPAA regulatory guidelines, encrypting all ePHI's in trasit and at rest.

As an added security measure for healthcare organizations considered Covered Entities (CEs) under HIPAA regulations, Interactive Intelligence will also execute Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) for customers that may require this level of contract. In addition, Interactive Intelligence is pursuing BAAs with all of its cloud solution partners handling customers' ePHI's.

"Achieving HIPAA compliance was a big step in giving our healthcare customers peace of mind," Szilagyi said. "But the fact that we secured third-party validation and we'll execute BAAs shows we understand how high the stakes are and we're prepared to do whatever it takes to protect our customers' sensitive data."
