Independent Film Makers Lead Trend in Using Online Technology as They Submit Entries in WGBH's Open Call: 6:55 Shorts


BOSTON & PALO ALTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- May 18, 2006 -- Respected Video Competition Receives 100% of Entries Online Using Open Media Network; Entries Are Being Accepted Until May 26, 2006

Independent producers are choosing to use new digital distribution methods to submit proposals for WGBH's well-respected short video competition. According to WGBH, all entries to date submitted to the public broadcaster's 6:55 Shorts video competition have been sent via the Internet, using the nonprofit Open Media Network.



WGBH's Open Call: 6:55 Shorts is a competition which gives independent video producers a chance for funding and to gain exposure with a wider audience than ever before. Successful applicants will receive financial and editorial support from WGBH, input during the production process from renowned media makers and a place to showcase their work. "Forward-thinking movie studios are beginning to experiment with content distribution via the Internet, and so are independent producers," said Denise DiIanni, Executive in Charge of WGBH's Boston Media Productions. "So far, all the entries we've received have been sent using the secure uploading submission process from Open Media Network. The new technology enables us to extend the Open Call as widely as possible. We hope independent media makers across the country will join us in building the public media of the future."
