IMTC Publishes Automating Quality of Experience and Diagnostics for Cloud-Hosted Real-Time Media Services Use Case

The International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium (News - Alert) (IMTC) announces the release of its Automating Quality of Experience and Diagnostics for Cloud-Hosted Real-Time Media Services Use Case specification.

The IMTC has created a framework of specifications for leveraging Software-Defined Networking (SDN) to optimize the user experience of Unified Communications (News - Alert) and Collaboration (UC&C) applications, to provide operational automation, analytics and comprehensive root cause visibility into media quality issues.

To ensure fast initial progress, earlier versions of the framework specifications were intentionally limited to on premise enterprise deployments where both the UC&C applications and the network were under control of a single administrative entity. The new specification extends the IMTC SDN framework to include public Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) where the Real-Time Media (RTM) Infrastructure is hosted in public clouds and accessed by multiple enterprise customers across a combination of public and private WAN networks.

The new specification describes how automated QoE and diagnostics services can be realized in a hosted cloud-based RTM deployment with the associated RTM-SDN use cases and information model for multi-operator coordination.

"The networking industry is going through massive transformation as it aims to be cloud-like in agility, automation and programmability. This new specification targets how end-user applications can program and automate service delivery of SaaS (News - Alert) applications from device to cloud," said Pascal Meneze, CTO of MEF and Co-Chair of the IMTC RTM SDN Activity Group. "A major problem is how to coordinate the complex ecosystem of multiple operators in delivering cloud application assurance. This specification addresses multi-operator closed loop application assurance systems, which in turn enables new automated cloud service creation and delivery models."
