iBasis and Vodafone Announce Peering Agreement and Exchange of Live 4G/Roaming Traffic over IPX Interconnect

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

iBasis, a KPN (News - Alert) company, and Vodafone Carrier Services today announced a new 4G peering agreement, which is already carrying live 4G roaming traffic.

By establishing peering, Vodafone extends its 4G roaming markets to an expanding footprint of mobile operators who are directly connected to iBasis (News - Alert). In turn, iBasis benefits by gaining direct access to the Vodafone group of companies and its mobile operator customers through the Vodafone Carrier Services' IPX hub, offering the opportunity for the company to greatly expand its global footprint.

"We have enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Vodafone (News - Alert)," said Willem Offerhaus, CEO of iBasis. "We are pleased to extend that relationship via our multi-service IPX interconnect, helping to ensure a consistent global LTE (News - Alert) experience for iBasis and Vodafone customers around the world."

Vodafone Carrier Services was established in 2013 by consolidating the carrier services of Vodafone's Operating Companies to form one of the largest wholesale telecommunications providers in the world. The company is well underway with its global IPX/LTE roll-out, delivering extended 4G services to customers.

"Mobile subscribers today are beginning to reject the notion of network boundaries," said Brian Fitzpatrick, CEO of Vodafone Carrier Services. "This deal is further evidence of our commitmet to providing greater speed, quality, security, and reach for our customers."

The iBasis LTE Signaling eXchange (LSX®) provides a single point of access to iBasis' live 4G signaling network with Diameter Routing Agents strategically deployed in popular telecom interconnect locations around the world. Through direct connections with many mobile operators, including Claro (Brazil, Peru, Dominican Republic), Polkomtel (Poland), KPN (Netherlands), and Telcel (News - Alert) (Mexico) and many peering agreements, iBasis is building a global 4G Roaming footprint of more than 130 LTE/4G networks accessible over a single multi-service IPX interconnection. iBasis also offers trial environments for testing LTE interworking, 4G roaming scenarios and VoLTE.
