IABC Ottawa Seeks to Define the Future of the Communications Industry with an Interactive Ipsos Reid Ideation Session

OTTAWA, ONTARIO, Mar 6, 2012 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- The Ottawa Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is pleased to announce a partnership with University of Ottawa's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs to host the "Breaking Down the Silos, The Future Face of the Communications Industry" Ideation Session on March 20th, 2012.

"Over the past few years, the role of communications and communications professionals has changed immensely. Now that everyone can create and distribute their own content and with the line between communicators and the public they try to reach becoming increasingly blurred we thought a session like this was a great way to hear directly from communications professionals how they are managing today and what they see are the key challenges facing them in the future," says Mike Colledge, President Ipsos Reid Public Affairs.

This interactive session will give communications and marketing practitioners from different backgrounds, industries and areas of expertise a glimpse into the future of their industry. IABC Ottawa will collaborate with Ipsos Reid to develop an interactive Ideation session designed to answer the question "What does the future look like for today's communications professionals?" "While we all scramble to face the challenges resulting from the emergence of new technology individually, we rarely take the time to share our experiences and exchange our thoughts on what the coming years will bring in this ever-changing landscape," says Jennifer Birch, Vice President, Professional Development for IABC Ottawa.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with the University of Ottawa's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs on this workshop, which will focus on group collaboration and the ability for participants to view real-time results of the brainstorming session through the Ideation software. This is unlike anything we've done before," says Birch.

This session will answer questions such as "What does living in a digital world where anyone can influence public opinion mean for communicators as they compete in an increasingly crowded and dynamic space?" and "Are the walls between the various roles in the communications industry crumbling as everyone focuses on mastering the art of the Tweet?"
