Hutchinson man accused of shoplifting [The Salina Journal, Kan.]

(Salina Journal (KS) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 4--A Hutchinson man who was arrested Tuesday is accused of shoplifting more than $2,000 worth of electronics from the Salina Walmart store.

Gregory P. Spaw, 43, is alleged to be the man whose image was caught on a store video camera loading televisions and other electronics in a shopping cart between 5 and 5:25 a.m. Jan. 19 at the store at 2900 S. Ninth.

Spaw was taken to the Saline County Jail on Tuesday and is expected to face charges.

Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield said Salina police received assistance in the case from the Hutchinson Police Department. Hutchinson police helped identify Spaw from the surveillance tape and from a birth date he gave a clerk when he purchased a pack of cigarettes, Mansfield said.

A warrant was issued for Spaw's arrest and Hutchinson police picked him up on the warrant, which was a violation of his parole.

According to Kansas Department of Corrections records, Spaw was released from prison on parole Jan. 12. He had been incarcerated after a conviction for identity theft in Johnson County, according to online information from the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System.

Mansfield said the two Vizio 32-inch flat screen televisions, a Samsung Blu-Ray surround-sound system, a Sharp 42-inch LCD television and a Starter jacket that were stolen from Walmart have not been recovered.
