A top executive of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., a top telecom equipment supplier, reveals that the company plans to ship 60 million smart phones in 2012, tripling that of last year, in a bid to challenge the leading status of Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) and Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK).
Board chairman of Huawei Device Co., Ltd. says that 30% to 40% of the smart phones shipped by Huawei will be oriented to the Chinese market this year.
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC), Huawei launched Ascend D Quad-core mobile phone, saying that it is the fastest smart phone worldwide, whose costs are 15% to 20% lower than counterparts.
Last April, Huawei unveiled that it planned to boost its operating revenues to USD 100 billion in the coming five to ten years. Currently, the company is focusing on cloud computing and networking service for small companies in a bid to support traditional telecom equipment business.
Ascend D Quad-core mobile phone will on sale in major market from next quarter and the version compatible with the LTE network will be promoted in the second half of 2012.
