(Central Penn Business Journal (PA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DESIGNATIONS Massachusetts-based American College of Corporate Directors, which offers training in board governance, audit practices and executive compensation issues, certified Lawrence E. Putterman as an advanced professional director. He is CEO of Larry Putterman Consulting in Lewisburg.



EDUCATION York College gave alumna Rachel Snyder its Making A Difference Award, which recognizes students, staff members, faculty members or alumni who make a difference in the lives of others throughout the year. Snyder is a performing arts teacher with York Country Day School. She was nominated by Nathaniel Barnes, a student at York Country Day, for the assistance she gave him, even after the semester was finished, in writing a play that was then accepted into YCP's One Acts program.

Lebanon Valley Chamber Foundation gave Lisa Lech of Annville-Cleona High School a $1,000 scholarship. She plans to study biology at the University of Scranton.


Gannett Fleming of East Pennsboro Township gave $2,000 scholarships to Hannah Kohler and Hailey Clark. Kohler graduated from Dallastown Area High School and plans to study secondary English education at Penn State's Schreyer Honors College in University Park. She is the daughter of GF employee Drew Kohler. Clark is a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School and plans to study molecular biology at McDaniel College in Maryland. She is the daughter of GF employee Kristi Clark. The scholarships recognize employee children or grandchildren who show exceptional leadership and character, based on essay questions, school transcripts, community involvement, extracurricular activities and letters of recommendation.

Harrisburg Area Community College gave Greg King an honorary doctor of public service degree in recognition of his significant cultural and humanitarian service to the community and HACC. He is a member of the HACC Foundation board and was board chairman from 2005-2011. In addition, he and his mother, Jean King, endowed the William J. and Jean D. King Scholarship to provide assistance to deserving HACC students in memory of his father.

Rapho Township-based Merit Shop Training and Research Center gave scholarships to nine students who have chosen constructionrelated career paths. Anthony Aument received $2,500 to study welding at Stevens College of Technology; Selena Dieter received $1,000 to study building construction at Penn College of Technology; Devin Esch received $4,500 to study mechanical engineering at Messiah College; Benton Joel received $1,000 to study engineering at Virginia Tech; Oliver Martin received $2,500 to study electrical engineering at Penn State; Eric Munro received $2,000 to study construction management at Philadelphia University; Ross Seilhammer received $2,000 to study electrical engineering at Penn State Harrisburg; Devin Taylor received $1,500 to study structural design and engineering at Penn State Harrisburg; and Nathan Wagner received $5,000 to study at Colorado State University. MSTRC is a charitable foundation affiliated with the Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors Inc.

HEALTH CARE The Leapfrog Group of Washington, D.C., gave four regional hospitals an A grade as part of its most recent Spring 2014 Hospital Safety Score ratings: Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Wellspan Gettysburg Hospital, Holy Spirit Hospital and Reading Hospital. Seven hospitals received a B: WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lancaster General Hospital, PinnacleHealth Community General Osteopathic Hospital, PinnacleHealth Harrisburg Hospital, St. Joseph Regional Health Network and WellSpan York Hospital. Hospitals are graded on their overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. The grades are derived from publicly available data using national measures of hospital safety.

INSURANCE The Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Health Care gave Capital BlueCross of Susquehanna Township its 2014 Partnership Award in recognition of its collaboration to provide health care value to LVBCH members and promote the health of member employees and families.
