HomePlug Netricity™ Interoperability Event features Cisco, Semtech (EnVerv), Itron and Texas Instruments

The HomePlug (News - Alert)® Alliance (www.homeplug.org), the worldwide industry group for powerline communications networking, today announced several of its member companies collaborated in the world's first multi-vendor interoperability event for HomePlug Netricity™ technology. HomePlug's Netricity program promotes the adoption of products built on the low-frequency, narrow-band IEEE (News - Alert) 1901.2 standard.

The Netricity program addresses the need for long-range powerline networking for outside-the-home, Smart Grid, Smart City, and Industrial Control applications. The technology provides for dense urban and sparse rural communications using frequencies below 500 kHz. The technology also incorporates an IEEE 802.15.4 based media access control (MAC) layer which is key to enabling hybrid networks (wired + wireless).

Held in Paris 20-21 January, 2015, the event brought together HomePlug member companies including Cisco (News - Alert), Semtech (EnVerv), Itron and Texas Instruments. Participants confirmed interoperability of IEEE 1901.2 implementations exchanging IPv6 packets in the FCC (News - Alert)-above-CELENEC band using various modulations and payload sizes. Results will steer the continuing development of the est specifications and test setup of the Netricity certification program.

"HomePlug is pleased to see growing support for the Netricity program with this landmark interoperability event," said Rob Ranck, President, HomePlug Alliance. "This event is a key step to establishing product interoperability toward finalization of the Netricity certification program, which will provide customers such as utilities and energy companies a sizable product portfolio from which to choose."

The outside-the-home, low-frequency Netricity program complements and coexists with HomePlug's specifications and standards for high-bandwidth applications, HomePlug AV and AV2, as well as HomePlug Green PHY™ for smart home applications.
